Hi, I’m Mila!
And yes, Mila Olsen is a pseudonym because my real first name was voted one of the least erotic first names in a survey. But whether with or without a pseudonym, I am an author, editor, and family person. I write novels because I love it, but I also write to take a closer look at life, simply to understand life and people.

My novels are complex and often dramatic. I prefer to write about taboo topics, mental illnesses, interpersonal tragedies, and difficult family constellations.

And of course about love, love, love. There is no guarantee of a happy ending for me, but there are plenty of goosebump-inducing moments of happiness, shivers of longing, and beautiful words.

Children are told stories so that they fall asleep. Adults to wake up.

My journey and my way of writing
I was lucky. I published in the right place at the right time — on KDP. But I also relied on professionalism especially because self-publishers were and are often exposed to criticism.

Luck and professionalism paid off for me. My debut as a self-publisher “Trapped — Until You Love Me” has sold over 200,000 copies to date and became an Amazon Kindle bestseller in 2016. Although I enjoy publishing as a self-publisher because I enjoy the freedom it gives me, I have placed four titles with Amazon Publishing which are not yet available.

I love …
I love long, endless roads that seem to lead to nowhere.
I love forests, especially redwoods, and trees so tall I have to tilt my head back to see the top of the tree.
I love taking photos of women and men with their backs to the camera and sunlight in their hair.
I love not having to commit to anything, van life, and general vacations with the camper where you wake up in a different place every other day.
I love red wine, cats, and pasta.
I love meaningful conversations about God, the universe, and inexplicable things, questions like: Who am I, and if so, how many?
I love psychology.
I have a kind of love-hate relationship with people; sometimes I love people and sometimes I don’t, and it’s the same with sayings.
I love lukewarm rain, sunny days, and the south.
I love the northern lights and the north.
I love freedom.
And peace.
With that in mind, I will end with my father’s life motto, which I have adopted:
Carpe diem — and stay healthy!
